These are exciting times, indeed! There are more Christian diving organizations than ever before. That means that diving Christians are using their sport, time, and energy to share fellowship and spread the Word while enjoying one of the things they like best--getting underwater! It doesn't stop there. We are also using our diving to reach out and help others. This summer, CDOT members carried over 60 pounds of donated medical supplies to the Crus Roja Isle Cozumel, the Cozumel Red Cross. Last year's hurricane put incredible stress on the Red Cross's resources. This is critical because the Red Cross on Cozumel operates the island's ambulance serviced in addition to a 24 hour medical clinic. However, getting supplies to the island is expensive. Common items such as latex gloves often cost three to five times more than items on the mainland simply because of the shipping costs.
That's where CDOT, sport divers, and other organizations can help. A system has now been put into place so that dive shops in the U.S. can stock supplies that have either been purchased by the Red Cross of Cozumel or have been donated. Divers who are going to Cozumel can pick up the materials and deliver them to collection locations (there are many, or call the Red Cross and someone will pick them up at the diver's hotel) on the island. The shop will have more details. For locations maintaining stocks, email CDOT. If there is enough time and a shop isn't close by, we may even be able to ship materials directly to your location.
This is a great way for Christians to reach out to others. If you can help, drop us a line and we'll make the necessary arrangements immediately. Thanks for all you do!
The CDOT NEWS, our newsletter, now has a "personals" page. Divers looking for partners for specific regions or events can now call out to other divers directly. To post a personal simply send an email to ChristianDiversofTexas@hotmail.com listing the specific information you want to publish. The message will be posted as you submit it. However, be sure to include contact information you DO NOT MIND having published, and specify in you email that the message is meant for the personals column. This could be a great way for divers to reach out to other divers!
Also, don't forget to check out the "Upcoming Events" page for a schedule of CDOT activities this summer.
Remember to print off a few CDOT newsletters leave a few at your local dive store and church, too. We're inviting every diver to be a part of CDOT.
